I closed my heart,
surrounded myself with a wall
Shutting out all the light.
Before I knew it,
I was living in Darkness.
I grew to like the Darkness.
I came to call it home.
Never did I know,
There was a crack in my wall.
The light came in,
My Darkness seeped out.
Peeping through that crack.
Living in the Shadows,
I watched people.
I watched them live,
I watched them learn,
I watched them love.
I watched them for a long time.
I helped them from behind my wall.
I taught myself how to help.
I taught myself how to reach out my hand.
I learned how to get out of the Darkness,
By living in the Shadows.
I live in the Shadows,
I watched people hurt,
I watched people get hurt.
I watched people live.
Living in the Shadow,
I concealed myself,
Lending my hand out to those who needed it.
Now my shadow has grown larger,
It's becoming more noticeable.
The crack in my wall has spread.
Someone's knocking on my wall,
Breaking it down.
I can see now,
There are people who care.
My walls are crumbling,
My Darkness is fading.
The light's shining down on me.
I'm no longer living in the Shadows.
I am not surrounded by Darkness.
I am surrounded by people who care.
I don't have to live in the Shadows,
To lend a helping hand.
